Hitchcock’s ‘Rope’ on Skin, Health, Beauty & Allure
“Rope” is a 1948 thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and produced by Hitchcock and Sidney Bernstein and starring James Stewart, Joan Chandler, Constance Collier and others.
Chandler’s character, Joan Walker, says she works at an “untidy” little publication called “Allure” writing a column called “How to Keep the Body Beautiful.” During the party, which is the site of all the action in “Rope,” Walker discusses lady’s fashion with Mrs. Anita Atwater (Constance Collier).
The real Allure Magazine was founded in 1991 by editor in chief Linda Wells, who has helmed the magazine since then. Allure is the leading women’s beauty magazine in the U.S., famous for its annual Best of Beauty awards—accolades given in the October issue to beauty products deemed the best by magazine staff.
